5 Things You Should Know This Week – September 8th

Election Day is Tuesday
Don’t forget to vote! The preliminary elections in the City of Boston will take place on Tuesday, September 9th! You’ll be voting for Mayor of Boston in addition to City Councilor-at-Large and district councilors. Polling locations open at 7:00 a.m. and close at 8:00 p.m. A list of polling locations can be found online. As a reminder, voters should check their registration status via the Secretary of the Commonwealth’s website. Printed ballots will be available in English and Spanish, English and Chinese, and English and Vietnamese. Language interpreters will also be available upon request. All voting locations are wheelchair accessible and are equipped with an AutoMark Voter Assist Terminal for voters with disabilities to assist with marking the ballot independently.
SB Library Events
The South Boston Library hosting two fun events: On Thursday, Sept 11 at 6:30pm enjoy a live demonstration of Medieval sword fighting. On Thursday, Sept 18 at 6:00 pm participate in A Conversation with Bestselling Author Molly Jong-Fast, in-person. Registration can be found here.
Spooky Block Party
Today, Mayor Michelle Wu and the Community Engagement Cabinet’s Office of Civic Organizing announced applications are now open for the Spooky Streets Grant Program. Residents and community groups who apply and get approved will receive a mini-grant for $300 to purchase items such as candy, pumpkins, decorations, and face paint, making it easier and more affordable for neighborhoods to host Halloween and Fall and Harvest block parties. This announcement builds on the Mayor’s work to make Boston a home for everyone and City efforts to create fun and safe programming for kids and families to build community and enjoy Boston neighborhoods.
