Prepare to Recycle those Christmas Trees

Recycle those dried-out Christmas trees this week! The City of Boston will be collecting them for the first two full weeks in January! Place trees at the curb by 6am on trash day. No decorations, bags, stands or lights on the tree. The tree will be shredded up to be used as compost. The compost will be distributed in various Boston parks o help new things grow! Jump in – 2024 – L Street Brownies Polar Plunge

We can’t think of a more shocking way to start off the new year by jumping into the frigid waters of Boston Harbor – talk about a jolt! Many believe it is good for one’s health, where one’s immune system can benefit from regular cold water plunges. This belief is part of the foundation of the L Street Brownies – the oldest “polar bear” club in America, and for over 100 years, the polar plunge has been part of the neighborhood culture on New Year’s Day! Everybody Fights is hosting a Grand Opening Celebration of its new and improved location on Dry Dock Ave in South Boston! You can get all the details here! 

Let’s go skating!

Looking for a fun way to keep the kids entertained? Lace up the skates and hit the ice.  The Murphy Rink is now offering public skating.  If you don’t have skates, don’t worry, you can rent them! If your blades are dull, you can get them sharpened there too!

Public skating hours (large rink)

  • Sunday:  2pm – 3:50pm
  • Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday:  12pm – 1:50pm
  • Friday: 12pm – 1:50pm & 6pm – 7:50pm
  • Saturday:  7pm – 8:50pm

  • Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday:  12pm – 5:50pm
