Wrong-Way Driver to Face Charges After Fatal Crash on I-93 (South Boston)

A tragic wrong-way crash on I-93 near the South Boston/Dorchester line late Saturday night left a 20-year-old man dead and a family of four injured, according to WCVB.

Massachusetts State Police say an 81-year-old t man entered the northbound lanes of I-93 near Exit 15A just before midnight, traveling in the wrong direction. A family driving on the highway swerved to avoid the SUV, but their vehicle collided with another car. All four family members were taken to a local hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

A short time later, the wrong-way SUV crashed head-on with a Chevrolet Cruze driven by a 20-year-old Haverhill man. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say the 81-year-old driver survived and will be summonsed to court on criminal charges.

The crash remains under investigation by the Massachusetts State Police.
