It’s a question heard ’round Southie – “when the ‘bleep’ will the M Street Park renovation be completed?
Well, as is typical form for all construction projects in Boston, delays happen. According to Ryan Woods, Director of External Affairs for the Boston Parks Department, setbacks with the delivery of construction supplies and Mother Nature’s poor attitude have contributed to the delay.
“Presently the park is 95% complete,” said Woods. “The reason for the delayed opening till the end of the month is to allow more time for grass establishment in certain areas. Some sections of the park will retain the temporary ‘snow fencing’ so that the grass rooting can be completed successfully,” he added.
However, fret not! The Mayor’s office has scheduled a Mayor’s neighborhood coffee hour complete with an official ribbon cutting to open the park on June 28th at 9:30 am.  We also hear there will be a face painter for the kids!
And another great nugget of good news for the park: On July 19th Medal of Honor Park will host a summer concert featuring a 10 piece Mowtown Band called “Soul City.” The concert is set to begin at 7 pm.  On July 15th – it’s Italian Pride Day from 1pm-4pm! Enjoy pony rides, Simon Says, Aquarium touch tank, food, music and fun!
Good (and beautifully renovated green space!) things come to those who wait!  You can see the renovations plans here!

I wonder if people realize they will be either walking thru it or around it to get to the “dog park” down on first street

Noone will be going the dog park down on first, they treat the top park as a giant open dog park. 20-30 dogs there every day

Unfortunately this will most likely turn into defacto dog park with tons of yuppie off-leash furry friends crapping all over the place.
