We realize that local, neighborhood trees will not look like the one at Rockerfeller Center, but can we at least get one that’s not half bald and bare with Christmas lights only on half of it? (Update: the lights on the tree are gathered at the top and not unfurled yet to avoid vandalism.  The lights should not have been turned on yet until the reveal of the tree lighting which is scheduled for later in December.)

We spotted the tree on West Broadway on Saturday and thought, “That’s the saddest tree we’ve ever seen. This is the best we can do?” Evidently, we weren’t the only ones who thought this. Southie residents took to social media and called out the giant Charlie Brown Christmas tree.

With the pressure of social media posts, help from City Councilor Ed Flynn, and maybe even a little magic from Santa, a new Christmas tree is in the works to replace the sad one that now sits on West Broadway in front of the municipal lot.

Merry Christmas!

Speaking of Christmas trees, the annual Mayor’s Enchanted Trolley Tour and Christmas Tree Lighting will take place on Sunday, December 2nd at 1pm.  There will be pony rides and baby goats to pet! Famed balloon artist Lou Johnson will be back again this year to create amazing balloon animals for the kids! Last year juggler Tim Ellis delighted the crowd and we’re happy to report he’ll be back again this year to entertain everyone! Another exciting addition this year is the New England Revolution mascot, Slyde the Fox! Slyde and the Revolution Street Team will be there with giveaways!

“I’m a lighting designer and I know I could help the situation”

This line gave me a good chuckle.

So are they going to put up a Menorah? I think they have to in 2018, right? It’s almost 2019 too, then it will be a hate crime to not have a Menorah.
