Welcome to the neighborhood City of Boston Credit Union!
Last week, Mayor Marty Walsh and other guests including Boston City Council members Michael Flaherty, Annissa Essaibi George and Bill Linehan; actor, producer and credit union spokesperson Kevin Chapman; Sean Pierce, chief of staff, Mass. Senator Linda Dorcena Forry; Boston Police Captain Joseph Boyle and staff; former City of Boston Credit Union CEO Dan Trombley; Mike Hanson, president/CEO, Massachusetts Credit Union Share Insurance Corporation; and CCUA all got together on West Broadway for a ribbon cutting ceremony at the new City of Boston Credit Union
The credit union’s new president/CEO Dan Waltz also greeted guests and described the new facility not as “our branch” but as the “members’ credit union.” He reminded attendees of the credit union way of “people helping people” and looked forward to being part of the fabric of the South Boston community.
During his remarks, Mayor Walsh described himself as a “credit union guy” first becoming a credit union member by joining Redberry Credit Union in Dorchester. He recalled how, during his tenure with the Mass. House of Representatives, he met with City of Boston Credit Union Director Tom Tinlin and other constituent CUs to learn about the good work credit unions do in the community. Building further on these experiences, he noted that his service as mayor has added to his understanding not only of the quality products and services offered by the City of Boston Credit Union but of the deep value of its philanthropic support in Boston neighborhoods. Finally, The Mayor praised the credit union as an important resource for city employees and all members, often taking care of them promptly with small-dollar loans and minimal paperwork, and ultimately helping them out of a jam.
