We are sad to report that Vic Leon Sr. the owner of Foodies Market in the South End and South Boston died suddenly on Monday morning.

Vic opened  Foodie’s Markets in 1998 on Washington Street in the South End when the area had 7 acres of vacant parcels and little retail or restaurants.

He was a cheerleader for The South End and was one of the first independent, family owned and local retailers that took a chance opening up a new supermarket selling organic foods, specialty meats and prepared foods on Washington Street. His family was Lebanese and he was born on Shawmut Ave in the South Cove area.  Vic also owned Washington Mall on MLK Blvd. in Roxbury and  had ownership in many food related businesses, restaurants and bakeries in Boston and Portland ME.

He is survived by his wife Gloria, his son Victor Leon Jr , general manager of Foodies Market, and his daughter Danielle Leon Kreger and 5 grandchildren. His cousin is Arthur Leon, the owner of American Crane & Hoist Company on Washington Street in the SE.

Vic always considered his Foodies employees his “family “ and his generosity and wonderful spirit will be truly missed. Because of Covid 19, the service will be private, and there will be a celebration of life in the future.

Gloria Leon ‘s address is 577 Bridge St, Dedham MA 02026
