UPS Facility on Summer Street to Close – Dozens of Jobs Cut

The UPS customer service center on Summer Street has shut its doors for good, part of a larger wave of closures the shipping giant is rolling out nationwide. In total, 73 UPS locations across the country are being closed, and thousands of jobs are being cut, including 62 part-time workers here in the neighborhood.
According to a notice filed with the city, the layoffs will officially begin on May 23. UPS says it’s trying to find other roles for impacted employees where possible, but it’s a heavy blow, especially for longtime workers and families who rely on those jobs.
The closure comes as UPS looks to cut $1 billion in costs, part of what they’re calling an “end-to-end process redesign.” Translation: fewer facilities, more consolidation, and tighter operations.
“This is about optimizing volume and improving efficiency,” said a UPS spokesperson. “Only a small percentage of U.S. operations are being closed.”
Just a reminder, there are UPS drop box locations around the neighborhood.

The customer service center at that location has been closed for some time.
Yes, but the whole place is closing soon.
