Tuesday Morning Gridlock via Uber Motercade/Protest
That’s no way to start off the day! On Tuesday morning, around 8 am, hundreds of Uber drivers clogged up L Street in an effort to draw attention to their cause of unionizing. They drove from L Street to the State House to demand that the local politicians support the rideshare drivers bill of rights. You can read more about this here.
Friend of Caught in Southie, Eileen Murphy, captured the cars on L in the photo above.
Here’s a flyer they were handing out to those who were interested.

Well….there’s no reason why Lyft and Uber shouldn’t be unionized. It would give them some protection against unfair labor practices, such as retaliatory layoffs/firings, and not being paid a decent wage to support themselves and/or their families on, plus they’d hopefully have access to decent healthcare and healthcare insurance as well. and also to file grievances if and when necessary. I wish them the best of luck in their fight for a just cause–unionization.
Unlike Lyft, however, Uber does not do background checks on prospective drivers. Hopefully, unionization would force them to do that.
I must admit that I’m not crazy about the tactic of taking up the entire street and clogging up traffic for their cause (Certain parts of the sidewalk should’ve been cordoned off for their protest.), both the Lyft’s and Uber’s calling for unionization is a good, legitimate cause.
