The MBTA is struggling right now.  The Red Line is broken.  The limited train and bus service that is being offered is delayed and overcrowded.  In Southie, the unshoveled bus stops are jammed packed with commuters that wait in lines or small crowds for the the elusive bus.  An emergency snow route has been put into place where the 7, 9, and 10 should be coming down East Broadway instead of East Fourth.  Sometimes the buses come down East Broadway, while other buses come down East Fourth causing panic and even more stress to commuters.

Once on the bus, commuters are faced with traffic nightmare where walking would be a faster alternative.  Due to reports of the MBTA’s woes, many people are taking their cars to commute into work which is clogging up the streets narrowed by snow mounds.  Uber’s prices are also surging due to high demand.  So walking in frigid temperatures seems to be the quickest and cheapest mode of transportation.

Here are some tweets we received from Tuesday morning’s commute:

Senator Linda Dorcena Forry’s office is reaching out to the MBTA to solve the issue of the buses on East Broadway vs. East Fourth.  One of Forry’s aids is a Southie resident that takes the #7 and found Tuesday’s commute “rough.”

Hang in there, Southie!  Be patient and take a deep breath.  We promise spring is on the way!  A petition has been created for much needed funding for improvements for a safe and reliable MBTA – http://t4ma.nationbuilder.com/ma_transit_future – Check it out!

Add the 11 City Point bus to your list. The bus drivers are driving eastbound on East Eighth st all the time, even though it is now a one way/westbound only. I told one T driver that he was driving the wrong way and that it is a one way now. His response was " I don't know anything about it". The T and citizensconnect haven't responded and there seems to be zero enforcement of the new one way rules.

Freeze waiting for the bus or ride in a private car for free? You get 7 free $10 rides if you sign up for lyft with referral code JOHN198.

(put it in on the payment screen right after you sign up). If you don't know what lyft is, it's uber but with less surge pricing (cuz people in Boston don't use it enough haha.
