So apparently Southie’s Mary Ellen McCormack housing development is plagued by super rats.  No, not rats that wear capes and fight crime. They are big, scary, jacked rats that are terrorizing the tenants that live there.  According to an article in Tuesday’s Boston Herald,  an 8 year-old boy was bitten by a rat and the development is so infested that people are afraid to go out at night.

Yikes!   The article goes on to say that the Boston Housing Authority is working to exterminate and the get the situation under control.  But for now, residents are afraid.

From the Herald:
Angela Mitchell, 24, is afraid her three kids will get bitten. “The rats are all over the place. … I fear for them every day. That’s why I come in the house at 7 o’clock.”

Well, that’s no way to live!

It’s not just the McCormack Housing development either.  With all the construction and digging going on in Southie, other neighborhoods are experiencing rodent problems as well.

Be safe, Southie!

It is true. And I believe it’s from all of the construction.  My husband is seeing them run across the street (this is so new to us!)  We live on M Street and have NEVER had a mice problem, and certainly not a rat problem. But over the last few weeks we heard what we thought was a mouse in our basement. Then one day, I went in the basement to see if we caught it, and it deiscovered it was a RAT; a fearless rat. It came after me and I had to RUN away. I had no idea that they woudl do that!  We since caught it using a bucket of water (sad).

I did discover that the wiring of my scooter was chewed up and it is now costing me over $500 to fix. It happened in the last couple weeks. I brought it in because it was stalling out on me and we discovered the culprit. Again, I thought it was mice, but it was definitely the rates.

Don’t forget to tell the residents that when they think they are feeding the birds with all the food they throw all over the ground that they are also contributing to the issue at hand.  Oh and you need to open the trash bin and place the trash inside, not on the ground beside it (laziness).   I know this does not cure the problem but it doesn’t hurt to help where you can.   Oh and the kids need to stop chasing them and throwing rocks at them, corner a rat they will attack.
