Boy, oh boy!  As videos and photos continue to surface on social media of the violence, public drinking, bad behavior, and general trashing of the neighborhood, City Councilor Ed Flynn, who lives in South Boston, is calling for change.  He posted the following on Facebook:

From overcrowding on West Broadway to fist fights at M Street Park and jam-packed house parties, the 2024 St. Patrick’s Day Parade seemed extra-bonkers this year.  But this day has always been nuts in the neighborhood. It just seems extra crazy, thanks to videos and photos being shared capturing the nonsense.

There were at least 11 arrests on Sunday, which isn’t bad considering there were an estimated 1 million people in the neighborhood. From someone in the know, not one of those arrests was a person from South Boston.

Flynn is planning on meeting with parade officials to discuss the situation and how these issues can be resolved in the future.

Here’s a 311 report of parade go-ers ripping down a street sign.

Some positive things arose on parade day, too, like Nana Ellie’s 97th parade.

Drunken girls stomped on my daughters fence surrounding tree outside her house. And then threw the pieces of fence all around. Also my sister found two guys up on her back porch. They said they were looking for the trash. Didn’t make any sense. She told them in no uncertain terms where to go
I think parade needs to be moved even though I’ve loved living in Southie and watching parade most of my 80 years.

Shut down the liquor stores & bars. Period ! We put up with their nonsensical customers 364 days a year. They can give us a break one day a year. The parade was shifted to Sunday for that reason but blue law erosion led us to last Sunday. Limit the outdoor “rave” parties. Arrest people for public drinking and intoxication. Put the National Guard in the Subways. Deploy all MTA cops. Public urination is against the law. Enforce it! BPD have to guard property & stop watching the parade. Why hasn’t anyone been arrested for the” hate crime” attack up M Street park? Readers should send you the outrageous videos circulating from Sunday. Eddie Flynn & Nick will end this this tomfoolery soon. We get the behavior we tolerate. Enough is enough.

…like to see “ended” is the open-invitation to so-called “politicians “ that strut into that hall every year only to laugh “at”, not “with”, us. That not-so -subtle threat of “l’m coming for you!”leveled at Senator Collins wasn’t the least bit funny…nor was it meant to be.
And the other one just HAD to go there, once again, with the “color” thing. And, NO, she didn’t say “snowflake” (in and of itself an insult), she said “White problems ”. Rewrite history much?
Why…WHY…do they keep inviting them back?
I’ll tell you why: it’s called a “parade permit”..
      It’s called “adequate police presence”.
Both of which will magically disappear if you don’t bow down to the…….ugh.
      I’m done.

Had the pleasure of being near a man vaping his marijuana yelling happy St Patrick’s day every 20 minutes. Next we see him yelling for his daughter. Obscenities yelled at police for not helping him this went oh for 15 minutes. 12 year old daughter was with older brother. Police had enough arrested him. There goes his father of the year.

I used to love this holiday so much but as a resident on west Broadway, it has become a day we dread. People urinate on our building, buzz us to use our toilets, and leave trash outside our building (including open alcohol containers). I now loathe the parade day. I only stick around to make sure our property isn’t damaged.
