Letter to the Editor from David Biele – Candidate for State Rep.

“Last week, I had the honor of joining the Thomas J. Fitzgerald VFW Post’s Memorial Day observances to honor those who served and gave their lives in defense of our country.  I also witnessed countless other tributes throughout South Boston to thank and acknowledge those members of our armed forces who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.

South Boston has always had a proud history of honoring its Veterans and Gold Star families.  We were the first community in the nation to build a Vietnam War Memorial, which sits proudly in Medal of Honor Park, to remember the brave sons of South Boston who died serving their country.  South Boston is also home to the Massachusetts Fallen Heroes Memorial.  Located in the South Boston Waterfront, it is one of the first memorials in the nation to honor those members of the armed forces who died in service to our country in Iraq and Afghanistan following the events of September 11, 2001.

It is impossible to ignore our community’s strong history of supporting military families, and as State Representative I will work tirelessly to support our local Veterans and Gold Star families.  Those who are willing to put on the uniform and sacrifice their lives for our freedom, deserve not only our thanks and gratitude, but also our support when they return home.

It is also our obligation to support the families of those members of the armed forces who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.  I will work tirelessly to ensure that Veterans have access to good-paying jobs, benefits, housing, and quality healthcare, and that Gold Star families are empowered and supported.  It is the least that we can do for those who have given so much of themselves and their families for us.”
