12 Miles, 8 Neighborhoods And 1 College Essay: A High School Track Star Finds Solace In Running
As part of GBH News’ COVID and the Classroom series, Thomas White (18) – Southie resident, senior at Boston Latin School and captain of the BLS Cross Country team, uses his love of running as the subject of his college essay. This ability lace up his sneakers, leave his home is a necessary outlet for White – especially during a senior year that is defined by COVID-19 restrictions. It’s the focus of this GBH story.
“Seeing what others are doing all of the time can be overwhelming. Running allows me to escape all of that, it connects me to others and to my community. Most vitally it lets me focus on me. Running is my happy place, where I can be grateful to be me.”
