Southie’s Own Chris Rooney Injured in Game 7 of NHL Playoffs

Ouch!
NHL ref Chris Rooney, a South Boston native and one of the league’s top officials, took a stick to the face during Game 7 of the Florida vs. Toronto playoff showdown on Sunday night.
Just 13 seconds into the second period, Florida’s Niko Mikkola accidentally caught Rooney while battling for the puck. The game came to a halt, a stretcher was brought out, and fans held their breath—but true to form, Rooney toughed it out and skated off the ice with some help, a towel pressed to his face.
He received stitches and didn’t return to the game. We are wishing Rooney a speedy recovery!
Chris Rooney is from the legendary Rooney Family – made up of 11 boys! Yes, 11 boys with Chris being the youngest!
