Southie native Cam Askew, 27, son of Jacqui Lyons and Brian Askew, recently announced his retirement from the ECHL. While with the ECHL,  the 6’3 forward had a successful career, with 86 goals and 77 assists, earning him playtime in 313 regular seasons and 21 Kelly Cup Playoff games, where he put up three goals and six assists for nine points.  Impressive!

Kicking off his hockey career locally, Askew went on to play with the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League where he made an impressive 100 goals and 112 assists over 327 games with Drummondville, Moncton, Shawinigan, and Charlottetown.  In 2018, Cam signed his first rookie contract with the South Carolina Stingrays, then went on to the Maine Mariners, ending his career on a high note.  His first season with the Mariners was the best of his ECHL career, with 69 games, scoring 23 goals and 15 assists. That would be his best record for goals scored in his professional career. He would also go on to lead the team in games and power-play goals, finishing second on the team in goal-scoring.

Way to go, Cam, on an impressive hockey career!  We wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors and look forward to seeing you in Southie!
