South Boston Shows Up: Lower End Lemonade Event Draws Huge Crowds and Goes Viral

What started as a heartbreaking story ended with one of the best examples of what makes South Boston special.

Just days after two local children were robbed at gunpoint while running a lemonade stand on West 9th Street, neighbors packed the Lower End Lemonade Sale on Friday to show their support.

The community fundraiser, organized by Southie resident Nicole Raukohl, drew hundreds of people, local elected officials, and plenty of media attention. The event quickly gained traction on social media and was picked up by news outlets across Boston and nationally, and the family is appearing on Inside Edition this week.

Long lines formed, a DJ played, and neighbors stopped by for a cup of lemonade, made donations, and showed the Byrne family they weren’t alone. Videos and photos from the event went viral, highlighting the overwhelming support from the community.  Due to the overwhelming support, a GoFundMe has been created to accept donations.  50% of funds raised will go to these neighborhood organizations: South Boston Neighborhood House, South Boston Kickoff4KidsGatey CYOCity Kids Soccer, and the Tynan Community Center Council.

Even better, the event became an opportunity to give back, with proceeds benefiting local organizations and helping to turn a traumatic experience into something positive.  You can make a donation here!

Plus, the Byrne family will be at Park City as part of the weekly Ritual wellness event with HB on Saturday, June 20th!

If there was ever a reminder that Southie takes care of its own, this was it.

We are so proud to be part of this neighborhood!
