South Boston Officers Recovered a Firearm After Suspect Threatened Security at South Bay

At about 2:30 PM, on Saturday, March 22, 2025, officers assigned to District C-6 (South Boston) arrested Alejandro Ortiz, 47, of Boston, on firearm charges.
Officers responded to the area of 7 Allstate Road for a report of a person using drugs inside the Target bathroom. While attempting to make contact with the individual, a detective was advised by South Bay Mall Security that a male displayed a firearm and headed towards Famous Footwear. The detective was told by Security that the suspect displayed a firearm and pointed it at their feet.
The detective updated responding officers with a description and that the suspect was now behind the Home Depot. Officers located the suspect and demanded he stop. The suspect then began to resist officers’ orders and attempted to flee.
A violent struggle ensued and the suspect began reaching towards his waistband. Officers gave multiple commands to deescalate the suspect which he refused to comply. With the assistance of responding officers, the suspect was placed into handcuffs.
Officers began to search the suspect, and immediately recovered a firearm from his waistband. The firearm was later determined to be a KAHR Arms with one round in the chamber and five rounds in the magazine. The firearm’s serial number was also defaced.
Ortiz was placed under arrest and is expected to be arraigned in South Boston District Court for the following charges:
– Unlawful Possession of a Firearm
– Unlawful Possession of a Loaded Firearm
– Unlawful Possession of Ammunition
– Possession of a Firearm in Commission of a Felony
– Defacement of a Firearm Serial Number
– Assault with a Dangerous Weapon
– Possession of Class C

…when the press reported it, it was “..,the South Bay Mall in South Boston….”
Now I don’t know much but I do know that the 02118 zip code is not South Boston. Just like when there’s an outdoor event or what have you down by the harbor, it’s “The Seaport”. But when there’s “trouble” it’s “The South Boston waterfront…”…
Just sayin’……
It says South Boston officers. It doesn’t say in South Boston. c-6 covers south bay.
…I read it online, either the Herald or Boston.com (“Globe light”).
It said exactly what I wrote.
