At about 2:54 AM, on Saturday, August 3, 2024, officers assigned to District C-6 (South Boston) arrested Nicholas Atwood, 29, of South Boston, on assault charges.
Officers responded to the area of 391 D Street for a report of a person with a gun. Boston Police Operations provided officers with a description of the fleeing suspect.
Officers were advised that the suspect was weaving in and out of traffic on his bicycle. The suspect was also seen striking multiple vehicles with his fist as he was riding past him. The victim advised the suspect to stop, and a passenger inside his vehicle threw water at the suspect. At that time, the suspect pointed a firearm at him.
Officers observed the suspect in the area of 250 Summer Street, and immediately placed him into handcuffs. Officers conducted a pat frisk of the suspect, and recovered a holstered firearm inside the suspect’s waistband. The firearm was later determined to be a Sig Sauer P365 with one round in the chamber and nine rounds in the magazine.
After further investigation, officers were advised that the suspect had an active license to carry and had consumed multiple alcoholic beverages before the incident. Officers seized the suspect’s license to carry pending investigation.
Atwood was placed under arrest and charged with Assault by Means of a Dangerous Weapon, and Carrying a Firearm while Intoxicated. He is expected to be arraigned in South Boston District Court.
