South Boston Cold Case: Jean Lampron was tragically killed after getting mugged for her pocketbook

It’s been twenty years since tragedy struck early one October morning in Southie.
According to a cold case featured by writer Emily Sweeney in the Boston Globe, on October 13, 2005, 68-year-old Jean Lampron was walking to the bus stop on her way to work around 5:15 a.m. when a man on a bicycle near D and Fifth attacked her. He wanted her purse, but Jean, tough as they come, refused to hand it over without a fight.
According to reports at the time, she was dragged and beaten before the suspect fled with her bag. A passing doctor stopped to help and performed CPR until help arrived, but sadly, Jean passed away later that day.
Two decades later, her killer has never been found, and the case is unsolved. Even more tragic, Lampron’s son, Walter, was gunned down in 1984 in South Boston at a gas station on West Broadway.
