Smile, Southie—Bus Lane + Stop Cameras Are Coming for You

Attention, Southie drivers: Starting this fall, the MBTA is rolling out cameras to catch those who block bus lanes or stops. If you’re caught, expect a fine of up to $125 delivered straight to your mailbox. Ouch!
This initiative stems from a state law passed in early 2025, allowing the MBTA to equip buses and certain bus stops with cameras to identify and fine vehicles obstructing bus lanes and stops. The fines are set at $100 for blocking a bus stop and between $25 to $125 for parking in a bus lane.
The MBTA has issued a request for information from technology firms to provide automated, camera-based enforcement systems. These systems should accurately identify and ticket unlawfully parked, standing, or moving vehicles in bus lanes and at bus stops. The MBTA aims to select a specific technology firm by late summer 2025.
So, if you’re tempted to make a quick stop in a bus lane or at a bus stop, think again. The cameras will be watching, and your wallet might feel the consequences.

Michelle Wu is a Communist who belongs in 🇨🇳 . She is like every other democrat who want to get rid of the Constitution. These loons want every penny you make to give to illegal aliens. People have to start standing up against these commies. These loons aren’t Democrats!! It’s been over 15 years since the loons took over the Democrat party and it’s never coming back. You can kiss your freedoms away your money away and your pursuit of happiness.
Ahh, she doesn’t control the MBTA. Go back to civics class.
I thought the bus lane was cancelled?
I also thought the bus lanes, especially the #7 was cancelled. They just weren’t getting around to removing the painted lanes. So what is it Wu and the other city councilors? Since the #7 doesn’t run on Sundays, can we use the lane? It’s totally ridiculous, these bus lanes, only back up more traffic. When this first started and the MBTA had a meeting, they told us it saves the busses about 4 minutes. So this is how our tax money is being spent.
Cameras in buses can’t happen soon enough… the bus lane on Summer was suspended
yes, the bus lane on Summer Street has been suspended. this is just a notice about the cameras across the city for lanes and stops.
