Update: On Friday, October 14th, Richard Gardner was arrested on a fugitive of justice warrant by Rhode Island State Police.  Last week, Gardner was arrested in Quincy for allegedly going to a  public library.  He was arraigned in Roxbury District Court on Monday.  Gardner was extradited to Rhode Island and was arraigned in Kent County Superior Court on Wednesday and ordered held without bail pending a probation hearing.

Original story below:

On the local news, there’s been many reports about Richard Gardner – the level-3 sex offender who served 28 years for the kidnapping and rape of 3 boys in the 1980’s in Rhode Island.  After a clerical error, Gardner was released from prison and moved back to his parents home in Weymouth.  Needless to say the neighbors in Weymouth were less than pleased.

Well, this week on social media, photos of Gardner were circulating with reports of seeing him ned the library on East Broadway and even M Street Park – a half of a block from South Boston Catholic Academy.

screen-shot-2016-10-14-at-10-23-11-amConcerned residents also mentioned that Gardner was not living in Weymouth but actually is registered as a resident at 112 Southhampton Street at a city shelter.  (On Thursday, Gardner’s case was moved to Suffolk County which means he had to move out of Weymouth.)   This shelter is just beyond South Bay near Fire Headquarter and McDonald’s.  Awfully close to South Boston.  The Boston Police from C-6 urged people to not post unconfirmed sightings on social media but to contact police asap so they could investigate.

Captain Joseph Boyle from C-6 reminded the community that Gardner is not the only registered sex offender living in the South Boston area and that detectives are assigned to monitor them.

Here’s some more information from the South Boston Community Bulletin Board:

Be safe out there, #Southie.  To be informed about the sex offenders living in our neighborhood, we’ve dowloaded the app  – Sex Offenders.   It’s eye opening.

      Hi Gerri,
Who can I contact for more information about that? BPD C-6 didn’t have anything to say about it, or even confirmation. I live only a couple blocks from there so obviously its very concerning.
