See Something Say Something: Break-ins in Southie
BPD is encouraging residents to report any suspicious behavior because it might just lead to an arrest.
See report below from C6:
About 3:45am this morning, we received multiple calls about two suspicious males checking car doors and looking into backyards in the area of L St and East Broadway. Officers responded to the area and located a male who matched the description of one the suspects. Upon seeing the officers, the male took off running through M Street Park. Officers gave chase and apprehended the male near St. Brigid. The suspect was positively identified by one of the victims who had called 911, placed under arrest, and charged with Breaking and Entering a Motor Vehicle in the Night. The suspect is a 16-year old juvenile.
A short time after apprehending the first suspect, officers encountered a male on a motor scooter who matched the description of the second suspect. Officers attempted to stop the scooter but the suspect failed to stop and was able to make good his escape. The scooter was later recovered abandoned on East 4th St.
There were two motor vehicle breaks reported in that particular area during the same timeframe which we believe these suspects are responsible for.
There was also an apartment broken into during the same timeframe on Emerson St (near L St). Detectives are investigating. Unknown at this time whether these suspects are involved in that incident.
Additionally, there was an arrest made of an 18-year old male for stealing packages at about 8:30pm last night on Gates St. The male was charged with Larceny.
Both of these arrests were a direct result of residents calling 911 in a timely fashion when they noticed suspicious behavior, and providing detailed information. Please continue to encourage residents to call 911 whenever they need police services or whenever something seems suspicious.
