We knew it was too good to be true.  Last month the MBTA announced that they expected normal service to return to the Red Line by August 15th.  Now that the deadline is quickly approaching, it seems as though work to repair the damage done by a derailment on June 11th, will take a few months long.

The Boston Globe is reporting that a new timeline and repairs to the Red Line are expected to continue into October.  August 15 is the goal for the restoration of signals between the Broadway and JFK stations.  The MBTA believes it should result in a five-minute improvement to Red Line trips.

MBTA is also hoping to fix signals between JFK and North Quincy and Fields Corner.  Trip times decrease between now and October as the T puts more trains into service.

So baby steps.
