Help out a great Southie family

A fourteen year-old South Boston youth apparently took a joy ride on Saturday night and then crashed a white SUV on M Street Beach around 9:30pm.  Before the car “rolled over” it destroyed a very special memorial bench for Sharlene Feeney Grealy.

Sharlene was a lifelong resident of South Boston and a mother of three who passed away from melanoma in 2003.

According to CBSlocal.com, Sharlene’s oldest daughter Deirdre set up a page on Sharingcounts.com to help raise money to replace the bench.  As of Tuesday, the site has raised over $2500.

Great to hear that people are stepping up to help, but why is the joyriding kid not responsible for replacing the bench?

ok this kid is only 14, and probably has no income, unless he is getting an allowance, I feel if he is out joy riding, and not at home, his parents should be held responsible for paying for a new bench. They should be held accountable for his actions…. and hopefully the parents will punish him, and not by letting him get on the computer, i pad, video games etc…. he should have to know he did wrong and there is a price to pay for it.
