At about 1:07 AM on Monday September 10, 2018, officers assigned to the Youth Violence Strike Force arrested David Meli, 29, of Somerville, on firearm and motor vehicle related charges after performing a traffic stop in the area of 51 Seaport Boulevard in South Boston. Officers had stopped a motor vehicle for a traffic infraction when they learned that the driver, Meli, was operating with a revoked license. As the officers were removing the operator, they observed a firearm in plain sight in the driver’s side door. Officers placed the suspect in custody without incident at which time they recovered the firearm which was determined to be a loaded .45 caliber Springfield Armory handgun with an altered serial number.

The suspect appeared in South Boston District Court on charges of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Carrying a Loaded Firearm, Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device, Possession of a Firearm with an Obliterated Serial Number and Operating a Motor Vehicle After Revocation or Suspension.
