It’s official: City Councilor Bill Linehan will not be running for 6th term

The rumors have been swirling for a while in many conversations around Southie.  “Linehan is not gonna run…..I hear he may resign before September….”  On Wednesday, in an exclusive interview with the Boston Globe, City Councilor Bill Linehan has officially announced he will not seek re-election.  So what does that mean?

Well, it means an open seat in for City Council, District 2 which includes South Boston, the South End, Bay Village and Chinatown and that means we will have a race!  Here’s who will be running for this seat: Corey Dinopoulos – South Boston,  Ed Flynn South Boston, Bay Village resident Mike Kelley, Frank Ulip and Peter Lin-Marcus. What?  No women throwing their hat in the race?

So we shall see, Southie.  If you’re a political nerd like me, they you’ll be excited about a good, old fashioned local political race.

More to follow!

They’re not the only two. There are a number of them now who have both filed with the state, and have yet to do so. Current whole list:

    Frank Ulip
    Mike Kelley
    Ed Flynn
    Peter Lin-Marcus
    Cory Dinopoulos

I expect a few more soon.
