621 East First Street

We are getting reports that the development at 621 East First Street in Southie will no longer include a YMCA.  The City of Boston’s Zoning Board of Appeals approved a 8.5 million dollar project for this property back in 2014. Initially the project included 28 units with parking, a barber shop and a YMCA.

According to the BRA website the proposed project description calls for a four-story residential building with twenty-eight (28) units including four (4) affordable units and an increase in parking from 35 to 43 spaces. YMCA no longer part of the proposal.  The development is currently under construction.

In July, 2015, Gregg Donovan, developer of the project, submitted a letter to  Brian Golden, director of the Boston Redevelopment Authority with a notice change to the project.  The reason sited was the YMCA was not able to secure funding.
