We all know taking the bus in Southie can be a drag – especially the #7 during rush hour.  Well, Hilco Redevelopment Partners and Redgate Capital Partners – the developers behind the new L Street Station project are proposing three potential routes for a new bus line to help Southie residents get to and fro South Station.  The hopes is to have it up and running by the beginning of 2019.  One of the proposed bus lines would be an express #7 from City Point down Summer Street to downtown.

A new proposal for this large scale L Street Station project was filed with the Boston Planning Development Agency this past week. In addition to potential new bus line, infrastructure improvements like new traffic signals, wider sidewalks on Summer and East 1st, and Blue Bike space, bike space for almost 1800 bikes, plus space for car-sharing services like Zip Car in the hopes to reduce traffic are also included in the updated plan.  You can read all about it here!

Wow!! Sounds like a good plan. A bus from City Point to Downtown sounds fantastic! Hope it works out for everybody.

Why can’t we just have the # 7 run on Sundays?? this never makes any sense why this popular bus line doesn’t run on Sunday. Even once an hour would work.

This is all well and good….but the continuing problem with the buses ( and has been for years) is just because people have moved to South Boston with the “lore of being close to downtown and easy T access” and whatever other perks they fell for – shouldn’t make it less T friendly for everyone else on other routes…….I have written on this in the past that the # 10 from City Point to Copley and vice versa is the WORST running route in the entire city and NO-ONE (the T, politicians – NO-ONE) seems to do anything about it – I know from hearing people say it in the past that route doesn’t exactly go to the “best part of town” that is SO WRONG…..we have been to T meetings and emailed the top people at the T and still nothing after all this time….I have been taking this bus route to work everyday for over 25 years now and it still shows up when it feels like it no matter what time of day it is, weather conditions etc you name it……..I have mentioned before I have been on the bus at 6 and 7 in the morning coming to work with older people who are going to appointments at BMC – 2 hours sometimes 3 ahead of time “because they are afraid the bus won’t show up” – that is just wrong…so while I get there are tons of people or looks its anyway at some of the stops waiting for the # 7 they already have every other #7 just going as far as South Station in the morning and the entire route runs every like 3-5 minutes – whereas the #10 is more like every 40 minutes or more….I think maybe they should start concentrating on better bus service functions for ALL South Boston residents not just certain routes….and I agree with the # 7 running on Sundays…..
