More Improvements Are Coming to the Curley Community Center aka the L

The Curley Community Center underwent a $31 million renovation a few years ago. Last year, however, there were numerous complaints about conditions at the facility, including locker room issues, overcrowding, broken equipment, plumbing problems, and more. Now, the City is moving forward with a new round of repairs and improvements at the Curley to address some of those concerns.  See the list below:

  • Women’s Locker Room Plumbing: Thanks to the identification and replacement of a broken backflow preventer in the sanitary line, there have been no major plumbing breakdowns disrupting the women’s locker room since at least January of this year.
  • Upcoming Locker Room Renovations: A project is currently advertised for bid on the City of Boston’s supplier portal (EV00017683) to deliver comprehensive locker room upgrades. Bids opened on September 3rd, with construction scheduled for completion in late fall 2026. This initiative will deliver:
  • Upgraded Showers: New shower controls and additional drainage to eliminate standing water in shower areas.
  • Plumbing Safeguards: New hardware designed to prevent foreign objects from entering sanitary systems, along with special hardware to prevent sand from outdoor showers from entering the drainage system.
  • Flooring Improvements: Full replacement of the deteriorated epoxy flooring throughout the locker rooms.
  • Concurrently, the Public Facilities Department is actively in the design phase for a comprehensive Phase II renovation of the Curley Community Center. This major project will include a complete replacement of the building’s roof, with work anticipated for completion in 2027.
