the takeaway

Well, it seems like the buses will stay on Broadway and not be sent back to their original route on East Fourth Street.  A consulting firm  – Nelson\Nygaard Consulting – was hired and they determined that East Broadway was the more efficient street for the MBTA bus route.  Ralph De Nisco highlighted a plan that suggested that sidewalk and streets are wider on East Broadway which allowed for better transportation of buses.   Gheesh!  We could have told you that!  Also part of the plan?  Eliminated every other bus stop.  Would that create more parking?  Maybe, we shall see. Hmmm…wonder where they got that idea?  https://caughtinsouthie.com/feature/southie-rant-week-t

As for overcrowded buses and bus stops, lots of people complained but nothing was really addressed.  And nothing is etched in stoned yet eithe re: bus routes on Broadway vs. East Fourth.  If you’re fired up about the MBTA and service bus routes etc, there is still one more planning meeting:

September 30, 5:30 – 7:30 PM – Tynan School – 650 E. 4th St., Boston

So speak up or forever hold your peace!   CIS will be live tweeting from this one!

The goal of these meetings is to:

  • Enhance service reliability
  • Reduce overcrowding at bus stops
  • Optimize bus stop locations and spacing for safety, efficiency, and minimal parking impacts
  • Improve bus stop accessibility for seniors and persons with disabilities

Happy travels, Southie!
