Mayor’s Enchanted Trolley Tour Kicks Off Christmas Time in Southie

For 29 years, the Mayor’s Enchanted Trolley Tour has ushered in the holiday season with treats, music, and an opportunity to meet the jolly old soul himself, Santa Claus. In 16 neighborhoods this weekend, a series of trolleys escorted Mr. and Mrs. Claus, Mayor Michelle Wu, and a cohort of local officials as they toured the city to light up trees and spread Christmas cheer to the children of Boston.
“Thank you for being part of spreading holiday cheer this very special Christmas and holiday season,” said Wu. “We know there’s a lot to do to take care of our neighbors and take care of our community, and I’m so grateful to this neighborhood for modeling that all throughout the year.”
The Mayor was joined by Mix 104.1’s ‘Fast’ Freddie Murphy, Councillors At-Large Julia Mejia and Erin Murphy, 4th Suffolk District Representative David Biele, and District 2 Councilor Ed Flynn. They extended a heartfelt thanks to the city and public safety workers who made the day’s programming possible, Deja Brew for providing treats, and South Boston Liaison, Lydia Polaski. Also making an appearance on the trolley Sloane and Miles McGrath from Colin’s Joy Project.
Flynn shared a message to South Boston’s Vietnam Veterans. “Many of them are in the audience, as the mayor mentioned, including Tommy Lyons and many others, so I want to say thank you to our veterans and military families as well,” he said. “I want to wish everybody a happy and healthy Christmas and New Year.”
After a brief introduction from Freddie Murphy, Clause emerged to cheers from the gathered children and families. “They’re wonderful, handsome people,” he remarked, before starting the countdown to light up Medal of Honor Park’s tree. In an exclusive to Caught, Claus shared his message to the children of Boston. “Have a good time, be true to yourself, and be kind to other people.”
