Mayor Wu Orders Review of Boston’s Street Safety Upgrades Including Bike +Bus Lanes and Speed Humps

Well, this interesting turn of events.
Mayor Michelle Wu has initiated a 30-day review of Boston’s street infrastructure changes from the past three years, including bus lanes, bike lanes, and speed humps. The review aims to ensure that these projects serve all users effectively without compromising safety. Mayor Wu emphasizes the importance of balancing infrastructure improvements with community needs.
That means elements like bus lanes, speed humps, and bike lanes—even those already completed—could be up for reconsideration.
Not that long ago, the bus lane on Summer Street was removed in addition to one on Boylston Street after pushback from the neighborhood.
According to City Hall, it’s about ensuring the streets work for all users without compromising core safety goals. This review comes at an interesting time, with Wu gearing up for re-election against Josh Kraft, who’s been vocal about his dislike for bike lanes.
The Boston Globe has the full details here.
What does this mean for the neighborhood? Time will tell. Stay tuned, and in the meantime—keep an eye on those speed humps.
