Man from South Boston and woman from Lynn arrested in a shoplifting incident and officer-involved shooting in Cranston
Two suspects sought by police after a shoplifting incident and an officer-involved shooting in Cranston have been identified after being apprehended by multiple law enforcement agencies.
Michael Campagna, 24, of South Boston, and Megan O’Brien, 24, of Lynn, were arrested at the JFK T stop in Dorchester.
The incident occurred at the Garden City Shopping Center in Cranston on Sunday, where the suspects allegedly committed an act of shoplifting and fled in a gray Kia. Shortly after leaving the scene, the suspects were approached by a Cranston police officer who opened their vehicle door and ordered them to exit. Campagna then allegedly sped away running over the officer’s foot.
The officer then fired their service weapon.
Campagna is charged with felony assault and/or battery, assault on a police officer and several other charges. O’Brien is charged with felony assault and/or battery, assault on a police officer, aiding and abetting an assault on a police officer and other charges.
According to police, both suspects already had existing warrants for shoplifting.
