Just a cowboy, a horse, and his dog trotting down the street in Southie. I’m not sure if he was looking to wrangle up some cows, but there he is. On Tuesday afternoon, a CIS reader spotted the three amigos walking down M Street!
So what was the trio doing in town?
Spreading joy and love! It’s Gerry Scott, his horse, Hercules, and Molly, the yellow lab! They are in the neighborhood as part of the organization – Horses Over America – a creative partnership between police departments and New England’s horse owners who volunteer their horses, trailers, and time to change the landscape of mental health – through horse therapy!
Scott is the founder of Horses Over America!
Back in May 2022, the trio could be seen all over the neighborhood, from South Boston Catholic Academy to the South Boston Neighborhood House to East Broadway, along the beach and Medal of Honor Park! They even hit the Southie hot spots like Lincoln and Rondo’s!

you may wanna fact check that…… your off 849 people
Except he abuses and starves his animals. You can clearly see the horses hip bones yet you write this article about him. Disappointing
Please stop encouraging this man. He is abusive & neglectful to his animals and the equine community has begged him to stop his abusive treatment of Hercules for attention seeking. If you see Gerry out & about please do not give him the positive attention he thrives off of. Tell him his horse needs food, water, properly fitted saddle, and much needed rest to rehabilitate.
This guy is abusing this horse and no one sees it other than other horse owners. Do you know how hard it is to starve a Friesian? They are air ferns. I am all for fit looking horses that aren’t overweight but this is not fit, this is lacking feed and losing muscle tone. This horse looks terrible and it’s not even that old. This guy needs to stop dragging this horse all over and feed it and let it rest. Not ride it all over busy cities and leave it tied for hours with no food or water. He needs to buy better fitting tack as well for poor Hercules. Stop promoting this guy.
We are not “promoting this guy” we are reporting on the fact that there is a horse and a dog roaming the streets of our neighborhood and our readers want to know why. Take up your issues with the appropriate people which is not us.
