Donald Edward Wright, age 33, of Goshen, Connecticut, passed away suddenly on Thursday morning, July 10, 2025.
Don was born on February 23, 1992, in Torrington, CT, the beloved son of Christopher and Mandy Wright. He was raised in Goshen as the seventh generation on his family’s historic homestead. The youngest of four, Don grew up surrounded by his three older sisters, a close-knit circle of cousins and friends, and a deep sense of community.
Don loved life and lived it to its fullest. From an early age, he embraced all that life had to offer—helping on the family farm, playing the alto saxophone and guitar, shaping his faith through Bakerville United Methodist Church and Summit Seekers youth groups, and spending joyful summers at the family’s cottage on Tyler Lake. The Goshen Fair—a proud town tradition—was a highlight of every year for Don, who worked the front gate and made countless memories.
Don was a graduate of WAMOGO Regional High School (Class of 2010) and went on to attend Northeastern University. His first year abroad in Greece became a pivotal chapter in his life, forming friendships that would last a lifetime. After beginning as a music production major, Don made the decision to pursue a new path, earning his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering in 2015.
With his characteristic energy and passion, Don dove into the biomedical field, working with emerging companies focused on wearable technologies and authoring multiple publications. Most recently, he served as Vice President of Translational Research and Development at Epicore Biosystems. He took enormous pride in his work, blending intelligence, curiosity, and work ethic into everything he touched.
In 2019, Don married the love of his life, Catherine Elizabeth Niech, in Waterloo Village, NJ. Together for 12 beautiful years, they built a life full of adventure, laughter, and love in Boston, alongside their beloved Bernese Mountain Dog, Snacks. Don loved Catherine deeply, and they were inseparable partners in everything—traveling, exploring new spots around the city, grabbing a cold beer at a favorite dive bar, hosting gatherings for friends, and sharing quiet moments at home.
Don’s creativity and drive weren’t limited to his professional life. He was an engineer through and through—fearless in the face of home projects and never without a plan (and a few YouTube tutorials). In recent months, Don poured his heart into preparing their home for a new chapter—carefully designing a nursery and play space for the arrival of their first child and finally winning the battle with their stubborn backyard lawn (which he’d proudly tell you is now gloriously green grass).
Don was the heart and soul of every gathering. He had an infectious joy for life, and his generosity of spirit drew people to him. He loved to host—whether it was a football watch party, an impromptu cookout, or simply an excuse to bring people together over good food and laughter. He often talked about opening his own place someday—Donny Tacos—serving great food at cheap prices, just for the joy of feeding others and creating a space where everyone felt welcome. Don loved good food, good music, and good company—he never showed up without a speaker in hand, ready to set the vibe and keep the good times rolling.
Adventurous, energetic, and athletic, Don was always up for trying something new. He loved snowboarding, wakeboarding, and playing pickleball with friends and neighbors. He found joy in travel, in lake life, in boat days, and breweries. After meeting Catherine, he quickly fell in love with her family and their lake community of Cranberry Lake, NJ, where he proudly hosted the now-annual Cornhole Tournament—one of the true highlights of his year.
Don’s greatest joy was yet to come. His daughter, Delaney Elizabeth Wright, was born just one day after his passing. Though he never got to hold her in his arms, Don’s spirit lives on in her initials, her smile, her fantastic head of hair, and in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. Remaining to cherish Don’s memory are his beloved wife, Catherine Elizabeth Wright, and their daughter, Delaney Elizabeth Wright; his devoted parents, Christopher James Wright and Mandy Lyn Collier Wright; his loving sisters, Genny Iva Wright Fullerton, Adrienne Lee Wright and her husband, Brad, and Myra Estelle Wright Ginter and her husband, Bill. He is also fondly remembered by his adored nieces and nephew: Annika Leigh Fullerton, Piper Joy Fullerton, Dylan Taylor Wright, and Evelyn Patricia Wright; and in-laws, Larry, Agnes, and Claire Niech. Don was predeceased by his cherished dogs, Snacks and Fenway.
A Funeral Mass was celebrated Friday, July 25, at 11:00 AM at St. Thomas of Villanova Church (71 North St., Goshen, CT). The church will open at 10:00 AM for those who wish to visit or spend time in private prayer. A celebration of Don’s life will follow at 1:00 PM at the Main Lodge at Mohawk Mountain Ski Area (46 Great Hollow Road, Cornwall, CT), just 10 minutes from the church. All are welcome to join in remembering the extraordinary life of a man who brought so much joy to others. We will be compiling a memory book at the celebration—please feel free to bring a favorite photo or written memory to contribute.
