I’m voting for….

With less than 24 hour until election day, we have received numerous letters of support for political candidates from residents of South Boston.  We will feature these letters in the hopes it will help the undecided voters make a decision.  If you would like to share your support for your candidate, you can email us at [email protected].

Our next letter in this series is in support of John Connolly, candidate for mayor.

Dear Editor,

Some statistics are showing that the US economy will be overtaken by China as the world’s largest as soon as 2016.  Other statistics can point to US household incomes peaking 25 years ago which makes life more challenging for our generation.  What does this have to do with a Mayoral election?  Everything!  We need to re-build from the ground up; every city, county and state.  We need to do this so we can compete with countries like China.  We need to do this so our generation ends up with a better lifestyle than our parents and puts our children on the right path to eclipse us.  John Connolly will upend the status quo; this on the surface is scary but necessary if we are going to lead.  It may be scary to unions, but no one is against what unions stand for (the Middle Class) and we need independent leadership in city hall to balance power with those of us who are not union and keep us living here.  Boston has been at the forefront of history on many occasions.  It may not be thrilling, it will be tough and a lot of work, but let us lead the nation on education.  Success and reform here will transform our city and provide the skills needed for our next generation to flourish and compete on the world stage.  Let’s not miss this opportunity.  Vote John Connolly.

Thank you,

Chris Leahy

This letter and the whole china argument makes me feel stronger that American unions are important. Does China have unions?

John Connolly is a nice guy but really…”upending the status quo” is not really what I see from John Connolly. He is about
as status quo as you can get. The son of a judge and the Secretary of State, educated at elite schools, a corporate lawyer who has been funded by big business, real estate developers, corporate education backers, corporate lawyers etc. You get the picture. The status quo in Boston couldn’t be happier with John Connolly. If you want one Boston, where everyone matters, citizens are listened to, problems are addressed at their root level and we all get a seat at the table, Marty Walsh is you man!

Unions in Boston need to change, we need to move forward and enact real change in the way we educate children.  Unions have a place at the table if they want.  But they can’t keep saying no to everything, they need to take part.

Each to their own and I sense you like your candidate.  But I beleive John is the one to enact the change we need and not vilify the unions.  Marty we will get more of the same and our city and country can not afford more lost time.  Independent leadership for an independent future.
