Let’s do what Southie does best – rally around one of its own! Support the Pierce Norton Fund
Friends of Pierce Norton, a BPD officer and son of South Boston, who passed away suddenly in January, have organized a special fund to support his son, Pierce. See the information below from their fundraising campaign – which you can support here!
Officer Pierce Fitzgerald Norton passed away unexpectedly on January 11, 2024, leaving his son, Pierce Salvatore, and partner, Brittani Smith, to navigate a new world without him.
Pierce was a South Boston Native who played many roles in his 38 years of life – hockey player, Providence College graduate, and a Boston Police Officer. His family has lived in South Boston for generations, and his parents, Maureen and Larry Norton, raised four children here.
His favorite and most loved job was being a father to his 5-year-old son Pierce Salvatore. He brought him to and from school every day, never missed a hockey practice, and took him skating throughout the week. Between their busy schedules, he also found time to have movie nights, act out army battles, and go to Bruins and BU hockey games together. They were the very best of friends.
Pierce Salvatore is currently in kindergarten at his dad’s Alma Mater, South Boston Catholic Academy, and he plays hockey on two teams in South Boston and Canton, MA. He hopes to play hockey as a Providence College Friar like his dad. He spends his summers at Thayer Academy summer camp, where his dad also went to school. Pierce Salvatore misses his father dearly and hopes to follow in his footsteps in so many ways.
This memorial fund has been created in honor of Pierce Fitzgerald to ensure that his son will continue to have the very best opportunities available. It will support his mother, Brittani, to keep Pierce in the private school system, playing on the same hockey teams, enrolling in his favorite summer camp, and especially to secure his educational future. This fund also honors Pierce Fitzgerald’s life. He loved making people laugh, giving his best, and protecting others. Let’s all do the same! W.W.N.D.
The fund goes towards Pierce Salvatore’s education, health, and wellness. Online donations can be safely made here at Givebutter. Those who prefer to donate in person or by mail can do so at: Boston Firefighters Credit Union, 60 Hallet St. Dorchester, MA 02124. 617-288-2420
Thank you!

Hi, Brittani.
I am so sorry about your loss. Losing a loved one is rough, especially when it’s unexpected. To paraphrase a Quaker adage that an old, old friend of mine paraphrased to me at the time of my dad’s passing 23 years ago this past January: Here’s holding you and yours to the light during these dark and difficult times. My thoughts and condolences are with you at this time. Take care, stay safe, and all the best.
