Kyzr Willis Family files suit against state
The family of a 7-year-old boy who drowned at the Curley Community Center is now suing the Commonwealth of Massachusetts stating the state did not do enough to implement policies and protections to prevent their son’s death.
Back in July 2016, Kyzr Willis drowned while attending a drop-in day camp run by Boston Centers for Youth & Families. Willis was not provided a life jacket as required by state law, and his body was found in approximately 10 feet of water.
The City of Boston made a $5 million settlement with the family back in April of 2017.
The wrongful death lawsuit against the state was filed in Suffolk Superior Court on Tuesday and alleges the Willis family presented their claims and concerns to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health in October and received no response.
