A court drama unfolding in real-time
The much-anticipated murder trial involving defendant Karen Read starts on Tuesday. The 44-year-old Mansfield woman is accused of backing up her SUV into her boyfriend, BPD Officer John O’Keefe, and leaving him to die outside a Canton home after a night of drinking back in January of 2022.
Read’s defense team alleges she’s being framed as part of a massive coverup involving multiple law enforcement agencies. You may have seen the coverup theories covered on Turtleboy News, run by Aidan Kearney, who is leading the “Free Karen Read” movement.
All of these conspiracies have led to a federal investigation.
Read, currently free on bail, has pleaded not guilty to charges of second-degree murder, motor vehicle manslaughter while driving under the influence, and leaving the scene of a collision causing injury and death.
Jury selection is scheduled to begin in Norfolk County Superior Court on Tuesday. NECN will be broadcasting it live.
