There are lots of community meetings coming up in Southie! Make sure to be a part of it all and be an active citizen!

Monday, June 19th
Verizon Meeting – The South Boston Elected Officials plan to host a public community meeting on Monday June 19th at Publico from 6:00 to 8:00pm to discuss Verizon’s plans for their Fios buildout in the city and region. Many residents have inquired about quality of life impacts from Verizon’s plans. Concerns regarding traffic, noise, and public realm improvements will all be discussed. Residents are encouraged to attend, ask questions, and make their voices heard. Details: 6-8pm on Monday June 19th, Publico, 11 Dorchester Street.

Wednesday, June 21st
Boston Edison Power Plant Development will host a community meeting at 5:30pm at the Tynan School to discuss the plans to develop the 18-acre site.

Another community meeting will take place from 6-8pm at the Condon School a community being sponsored by the South Boston elected officials and the St. Vincent’s Neighborhood Association and Fort Point Neighborhood Association will be held to discuss the future of the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center as well as ongoing safety and environmental concerns related to Cypher Street and the BCEC’s South Lot. MCCA officials will be there to make a presentation and have a Q&A with residents. All are welcome.

Monday, June 26th
City Councilor At-Large Michael Flaherty on behalf of all the South Boston elected officials and the Mayor’s office calls for a public safety meeting due to the uptick in recent police activity in our neighborhood, along our beaches, within our parks and in and around our housing developments. We invite all residents who have concerns or suggestions to attend, participate and discuss a summer safety plan.
Boston Police, State Police, MBTA Police, Boston Housing Authority, Department of Conservation & Recreation and Boston Transportation Department will be in attendance on June 26th at the Curley Recreation Center from 5:30pm to 7:00pm to discuss and to answer any questions.

Tuesday, September 19th  – District 2 Candidate Forum – Get to know the candidates who are running for City Council District 2. A neighborhood forum will take place on Tuesday, September 19th from 6pm-8pm at UP Academy – 215 Dorchester Street. This forum has been organized by the South Boston Association of Non-Profits.

    Wish there were more families in Southie, instead of all the yuppies that have moved in and taken over the old neighborhood, everything has gone condo and the local restaurants are all not family friendly, they are just concerned with attracting the yuppies that spend their money on mixed drinks and stuff of that nature.
