Hundreds of people in search of Pokémon this weekend in South Boston

Did you see them?  Hundreds of people of all ages, phones in hand, scouring Moakley Park in South Boston in search of Pokémon.

The Pokémon GO Fest Global was in the neighborhood this weekend.  So what the heck is that?  Well, think of it as the ultimate worldwide Pokémon block party. Every year, Niantic turns Pokémon GO into a global celebration, with pop-up events in major cities , and this year, it was right here in South Boston. Other spots included in GO Fest 2025: Global include Osaka, Japan, Jersey City, and Paris.

It’s basically a mobile game that uses your phone’s GPS and clock to create an augmented reality experience. Players explore the real world to find and catch Pokémon, visit PokeStops for items, and battle at gyms. The game overlays virtual Pokémon onto the real world through your phone’s camera.

So there you go!
