Harold Amato Obituary – Harold the Barber – barber in South Boston for six decades.

Harold Amato of Marlborough, formerly of Natick, passed away on July 27,2025. Beloved husband for over 41 years to the late Margaret (Petro) Amato. He was the son of the late Robert and Marion (Casey) Lindquist. Devoted brother of Paul Lindquist of Dover. Denise Siaba and her husband Michael of Natick. Cherished uncle of Andrew and Ashley Siaba. Sara Giargiari and her husband Lawrence, and Chris Lindquist and wife Adrienne. Great uncle of Bella, Nicholas, Parker and Anabelle.

Harold Amato, a cherished barber from South Boston renowned for his quick humor and reliable hands, retired in March 2021 after six decades running Harold’s Barbershop at L and Emerson. At 77, Harold stepped away from the chair after serving the Southie community for generations.

Harold began his career working for Mario in his barbershop right out of barber school. Many years later, Mario decided to retire, and Harold bought the barbershop and continued with his beloved customers and generation of future children. He kept the shop as original as the day he first cut hair at the age of 16.

Harold was celebrated for his vibrant personality and playful sense of humor. He often spoke of the many colorful characters he encountered over the years, including Whitey Bulger, saying, “I didn’t cut his hair too many times—he was on the run.” His deep care for his customers was evident in the thoughtful gestures he made, such as visiting elderly or ill clients at home. Even pets were treated with kindness at Harold’s Barbershop, where dog treats were always on hand for his four-legged friends.

After retiring, Harold enjoyed spending time in the sun, riding on his boat, and keeping active by mowing lawns. He was the kind of man who never liked to sit still—always on the move and looking for something to do.

His departure is an end of an era. He will be deeply missed by his family and by the generations of loyal customers he had served for over six decades.

The funeral service is at the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home on 4 Park Street Natick Common on Wednesday August 6th at 10 am. Interment in St. Patrick Cemetery, Natick Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday August 5th from 4-8 pm in the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers donations in memory of Harold may be made to Dana Farber Colon Cance

Miss him greatly. Old time barbershop with his love for cars, reflected in all the die-cast models. The box of candy, the TV always on, the fish tank and all the Visiting four-legged friends. He always had a dog snack for any that stopped by.

He was a great guy. My dad and I became really good friends with him over the last 24 years. He gave me the last haircut at the barbershop on his last day. I moved to North Carolina almost 4 years ago, but I always made it a point to see him whenever I came home for a visit. I ‘m glad that I got the chance to see him and say goodbye to him a few days before he passed..
