Gov. Baker signs executive order to protect reproductive heath care services in MA

In response to the US Supreme Court’s ruling on abortion, Gov. Charlie Baker signed an executive order that would protect access to reproductive health care services in Massachusetts.

“This executive order will further preserve that right and protect reproductive health care providers who serve out-of-state residents. In light of the Supreme Court’s ruling overturning Roe v Wade, it is especially important to ensure that Massachusetts providers can continue to provide reproductive health care services without concern that the laws of other states may be used to interfere with those services or sanction them for providing services that are lawful in the Commonwealth.”

Baker stated that the ruling will have “major consequences for women across the country who live in states with limited access to reproductive health care services.”

On Friday morning, the Supreme Court voted to end the nation’s constitutional protections for abortion that had been in place nearly 50 years in a decision by its conservative majority to overturn Roe v. Wade. According to the Associated Press, Friday’s outcome is expected to lead to abortion bans in roughly half the states.

Good for Charlie Baker! The overturning of the Roe v. Wade ruling has set an extremely dangerous precedent, because it could very well result in many women and girls facing unwanted pregnancies to resort to having illegal and unsafe abortions at the hands of back-alley butchers who are totally untrained in the technique, resort to using unsafe and unsanitary equipmen in unsafe and unsanitary facilities, and who take advantage of women and girls who are facing unwanted pregnancies. Before Roe v. Wade came in, many girls and women facing unwanted pregnancies had to travel out of state to get abortions and healthcare, and many were also permanently incapacitated, or died from infections due to unsafe, illegal abortions.

The overturning of Roe v. Wade really does put people’s lives in danger, not only due to unsafe, illegal abortions that are performed by back-alley butchers, but will result in more unwanted pregnancies, family strife, crime, and the forcing of more people on the welfare roles, and more illness and/or infections. Many pro-choice people agree that abortion is a back up method that’s used as a last resort, especially because birth control methods are not 100% foolproof. They can and sometimes do fail.
