The Boston Globe is reporting that there is a new proposal for the Gate of Heaven School.  Looks like the Archdiocese of Boston will be knocking down the building and turning it into a parking lot.  40 parking spaces will be available for rent.  The cash from the rentals will be used to help with the upkeep of the Gate of Heaven Church.

Demo is planned for spring or early summer.

Good thing the NIMBY’s made sure it wouldnt be converted to condos… now it’s a surface parking lot. Truly a waste of a beautiful building.

It’ll eventually be turned to condos. Once car ownership declines and the need/value of parking decreases, they’ll have no choice but to build housing on it, or sell to build housing on.

What I dont understand is why they limit their use to a flat surface lot…theres definitely enough space to build a small garage which would be more valuable per space since it’s covered and you can have more spaces. But I don’t trust any religious organization to make sound investment decisions so I cant say I’m surprised.
