Fire on East Fourth Street in South Boston on Tuesday night

BFD responded to a call for a fire at 841/843 East Fourth Street around 9:30pm. Upon arrival, smoke was showing with fire in the basement and extending to the back of the first floor. Firefighters quickly knocked down the fire.
Seven people have been displaced, and one has been transported to a local hospital. Firefighters were able to rescue one dog and one cat, but another dog and cat did not survive the smoke. Damages are estimated at around $600,000.

I live across the street. I have to comment on the wonderful firefighters. When the trucks arrived, they hustled. I was amazed at how fast they pulled the hoses out, how fast those ladders went to the top of the roof, where smoke was coming out of the chimney. There was no time wasted. Thank you to the many, many firefighters (8 trucks) that were there, who were able to keep the fire under control. Much praise to them.
