BFD responded to a call for a fire at 16 National Street around 8pm on Saturday. Fire was showing on the the second and third floors of an attached three-story occupied building.  A second alarm was ordered.  Fire companies were able to contain the fired from spreading to adjacent buildings.  Eventually fire was knocked down.

NBC10 Boston is reporting that a man who lived at the address was asking for help from neighbors after telling them his shirt had caught on fire while cooking and then set the rest of the house on fire. Good lord!

Damages are estimated at $350,000.

Thanks BFD for keeping our neighborhood safe!

I just came across this Article recently. This house was owned by my parents who married in 1944. It was the 1st house they bought/owned. They lived on the 2nd floor while a blind woman, Marie McGill, lived on the
1st. My older sister ( 1949) and I (1952) were born across the street at Carney Hospital which is now Marian Manor. In 1952 we moved up to the Point on P Street. When people ask me where I was born I always tell them Marian Manor in South Boston. If they are locals they roar with laughter.

I meant to add to the previous Post: Ironic: My Dad was a Boston Firefighter and retired in 1968.
