Election Roundup: Endorsements + more
Did you sign any nomination papers? If yes, good for you! Way to participate in our Democracy! If you didn’t, don’t be too hard on yourself, there’s always the next election cycle! Candidates had to have their signature papers turned into City Hall by 5pm on May 18th.
A smattering of recent endorsements in the Mayoral Race:
Former Boston Police Commissioner William Gross endorsed Annissa Essaibi George citing her “ability to bring all sides to the table to move our city forward.” Boston Firefighters Local 718 also endorses Essaibi George on Monday.
The members of the Ward 4 Democrats voted to endorse Michelle Wu. They were inspired by her work on climate justice, housing stability, and racial equity.
Former state Rep. Marie St. Fleur endorsed Andrea Campbell. According to St. Fleur, “We are multi-racial, multi-ethnic, multi-cultural, and you need to understand all of that in order to represent all the people.”
The National Association of Government Employees (NAGE / SEIU Local 5000) endorsed Jon Santiago. The Union’s President said, “This is the most consequential election in the history of Boston and our members believe in Jon Santiago’s ability to unify the city through proven crisis leadership and foster a recovery rooted in equity and opportunity for all.”
City Council At-Large:
As of this writing, we don’t know for sure who is going to be on the Preliminary Ballot in September (because City Hall is still verifying signatures).
But these are the people who have been out gathering signatures, trying to get on the ballot for a City Council At-Large seat: Remember there are 4, total, At-Large seats on the Boston City Council.
There are two incumbents: Michael Flaherty and Julia Mejia.
