DCR Recreational Advisory: Head Island Causeway Heading out to Castle Island aka the Sugar Bowl

Beginning on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, and continuing through Monday, April 13, 2026, the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) will close the Head Island Causeway between the Pleasure Bay parking lot and Castle Island in the South Boston from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. to accommodate resurfacing work. Pedestrian traffic will be detoured to William J. Day Boulevard
Where: Head Island Causeway between the Pleasure Bay parking lot and Castle Island in the City of Boston
When: Tuesday, March 31, 2026 – Monday, April 13, 2026, 7 a.m. – 5 p.m.

We used to have bicycle races on top of the sugar bowl cement oval when we were kids. Those were the good old days!!
We used to have do much fun in the early to mid 70s inside the Castle. We used to climb the old tree other West side of the castle and jump to the Castle roof and spend hours exploring the tunnels and everything else.
We would bring sleeping bags and sleep overnight in the Castle. Growing up in Southie was awesome!!!
