Councilor Flynn Calls for Additional Boston Police Resources & Administrative Oversight Following the Incident at the Youth Jobs and Resource Fair

After an incident involving several fights breaking out at the Reggie Lewis Center for a youth job fair this past Saturday, City Councilor Ed Flynn calls for additional resources.  See below:

At any major city-sponsored event, it’s critical for Boston Police to provide public safety support for attendees and organizers. When we send our youth to city-run events, we should not have to consider the possibility of violence or kids returning home to their
parents with injuries. The police are part of the solution to public safety in Boston, not the problem.

At this time, the City of Boston should transfer all duties and responsibilities of the summer youth employment program to the Boston Private Industry Council. The Boston Private Industry Council has already demonstrated exceptional leadership in supporting
this crucial youth employment program. The City of Boston is unable to effectively administer and manage this program.

..that the age range for this “youth” (??) job fair was 14…to 24 (???) years of age is beyond ludicrous.
Pathetic is what it is. Enough already with the excuses. Enough already with the condescension. Enough already with the “bigotry of low expectations “.
Until people…ALL people…are treated the same, and with the same level of “expectations” as to how to act and behave and to be a productive member of society….nothing is going to change. And that’s exactly what a certain “political faction’ wants. It’s called “job security” for them. It’s called “keeping them down, wetting their beaks” just enough to where they’re still useful (read: “votes”). And I think it stinks.
